Sports and Recreation Facilities
For fun in the sun, there's no better place than the Altona Centennial Park! Featuring a modern pool area, ball diamonds, a large enclosed stage, tennis courts, playground, picnic shelters, and green spaces, this park offers something for the whole family!
Altona's brand new Aquatic Park is a major summertime attraction! Come and enjoy the huge pool, water slide, children's swim areas, family-friendly changing facilities, and picnic spots. A must for all ages!
The Buffalo Creek Nature Park is situated beside the Altona Park and offers facilities for fishing, skating, walking, and beautiful spots for quiet meditation.
Attention, avid walkers and rollerbladers! A trails system is currently under development which, once complete, will provide an unobstructed, hard-surfaced trail linking schools and residential areas to the Altona Park and it's facilities.
For a great workout, check out the local fitness centre! Conveniently located downtown, it offers the right equipment or program to perfectly suit any fitness level.
Sunflower Gardens Arena boasts a huge artificial ice area, bleachers, concessions, and dressing rooms and the Altona Curling Club provides an additional five sheets of artificial ice.
The Oakview Golf Club, a challenging 9-hole golf course complete with water and sand hazards, set in an oak tree forest, welcomes the novice or the pro. Golf carts are available for those who wish a more leisurely day. Before, between or after rounds (or anytime at all!), the golf clubhouse offers meals, snacks or beverages in a relaxing environment.
For some intense action, the Lagoona Cross Raceways offers motocross racing both for pleasure or competition on a beautifully sculpted track. Everyone has the best seat in the house, since a berm surrounding the track offers optimum viewing by spectators of all of the action going on at any given time.
If baseball's your game, Altona boasts eleven beautifully-groomed ball diamonds! Many with bleachers, professional backstops, designed pitcher's mounds and outfield fencing.
