The Altona Community Memorial Health Centre adds to the superb quality of life in Altona. Along with a caring, experienced medical staff, the new hospital combines state-of-the-art technology with comfortable, homey accommodations. A fully-trained ambulance service and 24-hour hospital emergency service encourage complete peace of mind. For added convenience, Eastview Place, a new multi-unit personal care home and clinic are situated on the same grounds.

Emergency Services

The town has its own six person police force along with two auxiliary constables, and an animal control officer offering 24 hour protective service to the community. An RCMP detachment is also located in the area providing service to the surrounding communities.

Altona/Rhineland Emergency Services provides ambulance service, fire suppression, rescue, and public education to Altona and the surrounding areas. The impressive 27 member staff is professionally trained to respond to emergency calls through the 911 service, any time, day or night.

Social Services

CARE (Community Assistance Resources for Elderly) is a support service for seniors. It provides group meals, home and yard maintenance, and transportation to appointments for seniors living in the community. Along with Home Care services, which offer prepared meals and personal care, older town residents can continue to enjoy their independence.

Altona's recreational programs offer a huge variety of activities for any age, interest or season. Everything from organized sports, to instruction in computer, dance, martial arts, painting, gymnastics, babysitting and aerobics is available. There's never any reason to be bored in this town!

Altona & Area Family Resoure Centre provides services to families. The Family Centre offers various programs to support families. The Regional Health Authority provides the facility which houses Healthy Child, Baby First and Midwives Manitoba. The facility also has a toy lending library.

Occupational Training Centre, the Altona & District Branch of the Canadian Association for hte Mentally Handicapped supports numerous housing facilities for clients and the Occupational Training Centre. The Centre offers a workship where the mentally challenged can learn and develop new skills. The Centre is also involved in Altona's very successful recycling program.
