The Occupational Training Centre (OTC) of Altona is responsible for the collection of all recyclable materials in the Town of Altona. Recycling collection days are the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month. In the case of a snowstorm, the recycling will be picked up the next day. Please do not drop off broken glass or other garbage at OTC. The Town of Altona requests that you recycle the following items by putting them out on the curb in the appropriate manner.
All the paper products below can be placed in the same BLUE BAG or transparent plastic bag that may be tied. IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE PAPER DRY SO PLEASE TIE THE BAGS. BAGS THAT ARE NOT TRANSPARENT WILL NOT BE PICKED UP!
For Blue Boxes
- Glass containers (bottles and jars ONLY)
- Aluminum drink cans, plastic drink bottles, steel food cans
- No.1 to No.7 plastics (these containers must have the recycling symbol with the number in the center)
For Blue Bags
- Newspaper
- Flyers
- Envelopes
- Magazines
- Catalogues
- Phone Books
- Kraft, Bond or Computer paper
- Milk Cartons (clean, dry, flattened)
- Tetra paks (juice boxes)
- Boxboard (cereal, shoe or toy boxes, etc.)
- Cardboard (clean)
- Plastic grocery bags
Not Recyclable
- Paper that has been wet or soiled
- Carbon Paper
- Sugar bags, etc.
- staples, gummed labels, tape, etc
- STYROFOAM
- window glass
- egg cartons
All glass, aluminum, plastic and steel containers must be rinsed and have labels removed. All containers except for glass can be flattened or squashed, glass containers must be intact. The Blue Box recycling box is to be left in your home if you move. These Blue Boxes are the property of the Town of Altona and must stay with the property they have been assigned to. If you do not have a Blue Box call the Public Works Office at 324-6439. Extra Blue Boxes may be purchased at the Public Works Office.
Used Oil Recycling Depot
The used oil recycling depot is located at the Town of Altona/R.M. of Rhineland/Town of Gretna Waste Disposal Site. Please bring any used oil, oil filters or containers you have to this depot for recycling. For more information call 324-1379.
