MCC AIDS Benefit Concert

Concert will be held in Gretna at MCI's Buhler Hall. There will be two performances with the first starting at 3:00pm and the second at 7:00pm.

 

Kim Thiessen’s third CD, “Hope Is…” benefiting Mennonite Central Committee’s Generations at Risk program will be released in April. Kim will be in Manitoba to play four concerts. Generations at Risk is MCC’s HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention program, operating in 30 around the world. Travelling with Kim and sharing their stories are Mary Tumbo a Tanzanian woman who is HIV-positive and Jan Emsweiler, an MCC worker in Tanzania.

Altona Maroons Minor Hockey will be offering a Power skating program for the hockey season.

 Ten - 1 hour session will be scheduled from October to December on Tuesdays.  It is open to Novice through Bantam age players. Cost is $75.00.   Instructor is Reg Klassen.

Altona Minor Hockey will offer the annual RAT's AAA Hockey School.  Lane Curry will be running this years Skills Camp.  The skills camp will be for for 4 spearate age groupings:

Peewee - age 11 & 12

Bantam - age 13 & 14

Each group will be schedule for a one-hour session per day, from Oct 2 - 6.  Cost is $65.00

Join friends and family for Altona's Annual Christmas Lights Parade and Tree Lighting. Start at 6:30pm the parade with head south along 6th stree NE, then west on Centre Ave. and then north along Main. Following the parade, there will be the tree lighting at the Civic Centre. Hot chocolate and cookies, sponsored by the Altona & District Chamber of Commerce, will be available at the mall following the tree lighting. There will also be an empty stocking fund auction held at 8:00pm in front of Fields Mini Mart in the Mall. French 'Cafe in Buhler Hall

In conjunction with the Pembina Valley Artists Studio Tour, the Mennonite Collegiate Institute Chamber Choir is putting on a fundraiser in form of a French Cafe.  This event occurs in the Buhler Hall lobby alongside the art work of Lloyd Letkeman, Peter Cole and Andrew Rempel.

Cheesecakes, cinnamon buns, an array of loose teas and specialty coffees will be available between 10 and 6 pm.  Between 11 and 2pm, there will be a soup and bun offering as well.

Please attend to the Altona Mall on October 26th, 2007 to pick up documents to become a Block Parent.  Block Parents help to make our community safer. 

 

Being a Block Parent is simply to be there when a child(ren) or seniors are in distress.  Block Parents contact police, fire department, family, medical services or whoever might be required.   You put the sign in the window when it is suitable and convenient for you.

    Join us for an evening of music, coffee and dainties at the Altona Mennonite Church on Thursday, August 19 at 7:00.  Music will be provided by: The Singing Silver Strings, Paul and Sarah Krahn, Sarah Neufeld, Corey Friesen, Joanna Ginter, Lorraine Dueck and Charlene Funk, and Amanda Friesen.  This is a community event to help raise money for courtyard improvements.  Tax reciepts will be provided for donations over $10.00.
