MAYOR’S DESK - Edward R. Klassen

An issue that Council is continuing to discuss and work on is the establishment of a new medical centre/clinic. Although we have reported on this issue sparsely, we are progressing in the various steps, including discussions with all the players we see as necessary to finalize and start the construction of this facility. We will keep you posted.

Progress on the exhibition centre is continuing and we will be in possession of the plans shortly. Financial contributions are welcome at any time.

A delegation from Council and administration staff met with the Honourable Steve Ashton, Minister of Transportation and the Honourable Jean Friesen , Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs recently to discuss town issues. A request for support to urbanize Centre Avenue and Main Street were submitted to the Minister of Highways. There was good discussion held with Minister Friesen in reference to financial support of the Millennium Project including the exhibition centre and the trails system. Although we may not see immediate results, we are optimistic for financial support in the future.

With the summer months upon us we are nearing the end of July and the annual Sunflower Festival. We also want to take this time to welcome our delegation from Emerald, Australia (our sister city) to our festival. We look forward to this special time of the year where many visitors frequent our community. Have an enjoyable time at our festival!
