Altona Fire Department - Fire Safety Tips

SMOKE ALARMS

  • Test monthly.
  • Change the batteries twice a year.
  • Replace the alarm according to the
    manufacturer’s instructions.

HAVE A FIRE ESCAPE PLAN

  • Draw a floor plan of your home showing
    two ways out of each room.
  • Walk through your escape routes with
    each family member.
  • Practice crawling low to avoid heat
    and smoke.
  • Decide on an outside meeting place and
    from where you will call the fire department.
  • Remind everyone to GET OUT
    AND STAY OUT

Buffalo Creek Nature Park

PLEASE STAY OFF THE ICE at the Buffalo Creek Nature Park pond, the ice is thin and dangerous at this time. When the ice is safe for usage, it will be announced on CFAM, the Red River Valley Echo and in the schools. We look forward to many winter activities at the Buffalo Creek Nature Park when the pond is frozen to a safe thickness. For more information contact the Altona Recreation Office at 324-9005.

Buying expensive Christmas gifts such as home theatre systems, portable stereos, etc? Don’t place the cartons for disposal in plain view, to avoid possible break and enter at your home.

Altona Police Service will be conducting Impaired Driving road checks. With the festive season here, please don’t drink and drive.


ATTENTION SNOWMOBILE OPERATORS

All snowmobile operators in Altona:
  • Must be sixteen and hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Must wear a helmet.
  • Must not drive on streets.
  • Must take the most direct route out of town
     and back to residence by way of boulevards and ditches.
  • Speed must not exceed 10 km per hour.
  • Must not drive in any residential area between
    the hours of midnight and 7 a.m.
    Must not drive on streets
