With January being a month of reflection and planning one looks back to see what has been accomplished. One thing that comes to mind is the availability and success of many of our Seniors Programs with activities from crafts, tours, trips, skating to waffle breakfasts including entertainment to more serious issues such as Senior Driving Seminars. Many of these activities are well attended and are planned through the hard work and dedication of our Seniors Events Coordinator Grace Braun,
Recreation Services Manager Ron Epp, the Altona Police Services who organized the Senior Driving Seminars and the staff at the Ebenzer Home for work in preparing the waffle breakfasts. Thank you to all those involved in the organization of these programs and to the seniors that come out and enjoy the activities and the fellowship.
With the construction of the new Exhibition Centre slated to begin this spring, the recreational services for all ages can only grow! The new Centre will have a variety of activities for all ages such as a craft area, a community centre, a walking track and an ice surface. The Council of the Town of Altona would welcome any type of contribution that you feel you would be able to give be it financial or suggestions on the type of programming you wish to see in this new facility.

Community & Social Development Committee
As we begin the new year, the people of Altona will be pleased to know that Council has confirmed an earlier commitment to begin construction of the Exhibition Centre. We expect that construction will begin in the spring of 2002.
We still have more than $500,000 to raise, but we are confident that through community and corporate fund raising, we will reach our goal. If you have not made a commitment to the Millennium Plan as of yet, we would like to encourage you to do so. We do need the support of more donors. The Community Fund Raising Committee is planning another fund raising dinner for March 22, 2002. Please mark that date on your calendar and support this effort. Councillor Melvin Klassen, Menno M.
Friesen and their committee are heading up this fund-raising effort. Tickets will be available from Committee members or at the Town Office.
The Town has begun the process of pre-qualifying contractors for the construction of this project. Once that process is completed the project will go to the tender stage. The design-build plans have been completed and if anyone is interested in seeing them you can do so at the Town office.
The Town of Altona is a progressive and growing community. The completion of the Exhibition Centre is an indicator that we are moving forward, and Council, with your help is looking forward to making this project a reality. Thank you for your continued support of the Altona Millennium Plan.
