MAYOR’S DESK - EDWARD R. KLASSEN

One of the goals we addressed in 2000 was a seminar on immigration opportunities for Altona. Sometimes when time is invested in issues such as this, we cannot determine the end results, but in this case we were successful in making a start. Just recently we received a letter from Zaifman Associates (immigration lawyers) that we are to expect 6 – 8 families from Germany to arrive this spring or early summer. This will provide opportunities such as residential development and in growth for our community in general and we hope that this will result in more families immigrating to our area. Our future success will not be entirely because of Council’s efforts but will continue to be a community effort by the residents, businesses, and organizations such as the Altona Community Development Corporation and the Chamber of Commerce. We look forward to continued support as we work together for the benefit of our community.

COUNCILLOR’S CORNER - RICHARD MARTEL

Late last fall construction of the new medical clinic was started. Hopefully by May or June it will be up and running. The need for donations is still there. In March we hope to do a door to door canvass of Altona to raise funds to finish the interior of the clinic. We need the support of all residents to give our people the best medical care in a state of the art clinic. Donations can be dropped off at the R.M. of Rhineland office or the Town of Altona administration office and tax receipts will be issued.

Please give generously to the medical clinic, one day you may need it.
