| Mayor’s Desk - Edward R. Klassen |
 |
The Town of Altona and the R.M. of Rhineland will be hosting a booth at Rural Forum in Brandon, April 25th, 26th, & 27th. The Rural Forum brings Manitobans from all corners of our province together and welcomes visitors from far and wide to explore the diversity and strength in urban communities. Annually, close to 10,000 people visit the regions, the communities, the organizations
and the businesses at Rural Forum. As Mayor, I feel this is a good marketing opportunity to promote our Community to individuals looking to make a move or to enjoy a summer get away to a quiet, safe and attractive community like Altona.
In recent weeks, a number of questions have been raised regarding pets and the responsibility of their owners. The Town of Altona has a By-law in regards to the responsibility of the pet owner:
By-Law Responsibility of the owner:
- THAT NO OWNER SHALL - Permit his/her animal to defecate on any private property.
- THAT NO OWNER SHALL - Permit his/her animal to defecate on property other than the property of its owner without causing to be removed immediately.
If you see infractions against the above by-law contact the Animal Control Officer at 324-4644.
All pet owners make sure to register your cat(s) and/or dog(s) at the Altona Town Office. All cats and dogs must have a new licence every year. Please keep your pets on a leash and respect other people’s property by cleaning up after your pets.
With spring here and summer fast approaching, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable season. We have a beautiful community, let’s enjoy it!

| Councillor’s Corner - Terry Wiebe |
 |
Councillor & President of the Altona Community Development Corporation.
The year 2001 was a good year for growth in Altona and district. The Town of Altona had a growth rate of approximately 4.6% from 1995. The Town grew in population from 3286 to 3434 residents. The R.M. of Rhineland has also experienced growth of approximately 1%. This is very good news, for Altona and area when you consider that most communities in Manitoba, had a decrease or were only able to maintain their population. The Altona Community Development Corporation is working with
businesses in Altona and area to help create more jobs for the area. We do this by consulting businesses, business incentive programs and building an Incubator Mall, etc. with hopes of creating more jobs in and around the community. We have heard from a number of businesses that there is a lack of skilled labour in this area. To help this situation the Town of Altona has had several meetings with Zaifman Associates, who are in the business of helping skilled people from countries aboard
and companies within Manitoba filling each others needs for work here in Canada.
On behalf of the Altona Community Development Corporation and the Town of Altona, I encourage those businesses in Altona and area that are in need of labour which is not being provided, to contact the Altona Community Development Corporation. Together, we may be able to assist you and in turn you will be helping Altona and area in further growth.
