Garbage Collection Information

The garbage pickup schedule for the Town of Altona is as follows:

• Southwest - Monday
• Southeast - Tuesday
• Northwest - Thursday
• Northeast - Friday

Please Note: Garbage Bag Tags are required for garbage pickup when you exceed the allotted amount. Houses and duplexes are allotted 2 untagged bags of garbage per week per household unit. Apartments are allotted 1 untagged bag of garbage per week per household unit. Garbage Bag Tags are available for $1.00 per tag and may be purchased at the Town Office. Each bag exceeding the allotted amount requires one tag.

Used Oil Recycling Depot

The used oil recycling depot is located at the Town of Altona/R.M. of Rhineland/Town of Gretna Waste Disposal site. Please bring any used oil, oil filters or containers you have to this depot for recycling. For more information call 324-1379.

Waste Disposal Site is located 3 miles North of Sun Valley Co-Op Grocery Store and 1 ½ miles East. All loads brought to the disposal site must be covered or tied down.

Waste Disposal Site Hours of Operation: 

October 15 to March 31 

Tuesday thru Friday 8:30a.m. to 5p.m.
Saturday 8:30a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

April 1 to October 14 

Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:30a.m. to 5p.m
Wednesday 8:30a.m. to 8 p.m. 
Saturday 8:30a.m. to 12:00 noon
